MEPs agree not to amend proposal on administrative cooperation rules

The European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) approved the simplified procedure for the proposal amending the Directive on Administrative Cooperation in the field of taxation (‘DAC 9’) on Thursday 16 January.

MEPs therefore decided to follow the advice of the rapporteur, Aurore Lalucq (S&D, French), not to amend the text (see EUROPE 13546/17), given its highly technical nature. Unveiled in October by the European Commission, this ninth version of the DAC is intended to transpose into Community law the OECD’s information return, which contains data enabling tax administrators to assess a multinational company’s compliance with the worldwide rules against erosion of the tax base (‘GloBE Information Return’ or GIR) (see EUROPE 13513/4). The report will be put to a vote at the next European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg in February.

For its part, the Council of the EU has only just begun discussions on the subject.
