On Thursday 16 January, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) launched a new call for proposals to create its tenth knowledge and innovation community (KIC): EIT Water.
This initiative will focus on aquatic, marine and maritime sectors and ecosystems and will tackle challenges such as water scarcity, droughts, floods and the degradation of marine and freshwater resources.
With this call, the EIT is inviting universities, research institutes and businesses in particular to present their vision and strategy for the new KIC.
EIT KICs are large-scale pan-European partnerships that bring together educational institutions, research organisations and businesses to create a pipeline of innovative products and services. They receive funding from the EIT for a maximum of 15 years. EIT Water has an initial budget of €5 million for 2026.
EIT Water will join the nine existing KICs in the fields of climate, digital, energy, health, raw materials, food, manufacturing, urban mobility and culture.
