In a vote in the Environment Committee on Thursday 16 January, MEPs decided to begin negotiations with the Council of the European Union and the European Commission on the regulation on plastic pellets (see EUROPE 13543/7). The text’s rapporteur, César Luena (S&D, Spanish), said afterwards in a post on the social network Bluesky that Parliament’s priority in the negotiations “will be to include maritime transport in this regulation”. In its position adopted on 17 December 2024, the Council of the EU proposed to apply the Regulation to maritime transport, but 36 months after the entry into force of the text. The first trilogue will take place on Wednesday 29 January. (FS)
