EU and Beijing continue to impose anti-dumping duties on each other

16/01/2025 (Agence Europe)Announcements of anti-dumping duties between the EU and China continued on Thursday 16 January, with measures imposed by both sides. China has announced that it is imposing provisional anti-dumping duties on industrial plastics originating from Europe, America, Japan and Taiwan. The measure relates in particular to acetal copolymer, which can be used directly or modified for automotive accessories, electronic devices, industrial machinery and many other materials.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Trade, imports of acetal copolymer from these three countries and from the EU are causing dumping in China and significant harm to local industry. He indicated that the rates would apply from 24 January. He had opened the investigation in May 2024.

On 16 January, the European Commission published two implementing regulations imposing a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of erythritol originating in the People’s Republic of China and extending a countervailing duty on some Chinese tyres. The latter has been renewed following a review and specifically targets specific new or retreaded pneumatic tyres, of the type used for buses or lorries, and with a load index greater than 121. It ranges from 3.75% to 57.28% of the net border price.

The anti-dumping duty on erythritol (a natural sweetener) varies between 34.4% and 233.3%. The European Commission also announced the definitive collection of amounts deposited under the provisional duty previously imposed.
