The European External Action Service (EEAS) has reported that the European Union and Japan held a dialogue in Brussels on Tuesday 14 January on disarmament and non-proliferation as part of their security and defence partnership agreed in November 2024 (see EUROPE 13517/11).
The two sides discussed key issues such as nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, arms control and biological and chemical weapons.
Reaffirming the importance of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), they agreed to continue their consultations in this area.
Represented by Ambassador Stephan Klement for the EU and Ambassador Nakamura Kimitake for Japan, the two sides reiterated their commitment to “promote peace and stability in the world through collaborative efforts” in the fields of arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation.
