16/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – The CEOs of Europe’s largest companies are paid 110 times more than the average worker, according to a statement issued by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) on Thursday 16 January, based on a study by the European Trade Union Institute. “Between an average basic salary of €1,571,000 and bonuses of up to 200% of their salary, CEOs of Europe’s top 100 companies received remuneration of €4,147,440 on average last year. That compares to €37,863 for a full-time worker”. Ahead of Davos, the ETUC “is warning that the vast wealth gap is damaging both the economy and democracy”. It cites two studies on low wages and the loss of confidence in democratic institutions, and calls for European workers to be covered by collective agreements.
