04/11/24 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 31 October, the European Union condemned North Korea’s launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile on the same day, saying it was yet another flagrant violation of several United Nations Security Council resolutions and the fundamental principles of international law. This launch and North Korea’s support for Russia’s war in Ukraine (see EUROPE 13515/31) threaten global security, according to the EU. In particular, it urges North Korea to comply with the Non-Proliferation Treaty, irreversibly abandon its nuclear and missile programmes and return to diplomacy. In coordination with South Korea, Japan and other partners, the EU intends to support efforts towards the “complete, verifiable and irreversible” denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula. (PLD)
