04/11/24 (Agence Europe) – Ahead of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists on Saturday 2 November, High Representative Josep Borrell and Vice-President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency Věra Jourová strongly condemned attacks on journalists on Friday 1 November and once again called for “urgent and effective action” to protect media professionals. “Deliberately targeting journalists is a war crime under international humanitarian law”, they said in a statement. “The unprecedented rise in killings of journalists over the last year is devastating and unacceptable”, they added. Ms Jourová and Mr Borrell urged States to investigate violence, threats and harassment against journalists “promptly, effectively and impartially”. (CG)
