On Wednesday 30 October, the European Commission published a report assessing the implementation of the 2013 Council Recommendation (https://aeur.eu/f/e66 ) on health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA).
The report, drawn up in partnership with the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Europe, tracks progress in Member States through country profiles. The aim is to detail initiatives to encourage physical activity, targeting specific groups such as children, adults and the elderly, and encompassing various sectors such as health, education and transport.
With 23 indicators measuring each country’s progress, the report shows a clear improvement between 2015 and 2024. The average percentage of indicators achieved by the Member States has risen from 64.7% in 2015 to 81.8% in 2024, illustrating the growing efforts to promote health at national level.
