Workers with disabilities continue to face inaccessibility and a lack of support in the workplace, according to a report published on Wednesday 10 July by the European Disability Forum (EDF).
The report “‘Digital Skills, Accommodation and Technological Assistance for Employment’ shows the pervasive problems still faced by disabled employees in the EU and the UK, from inaccessible hiring processes and lack of accommodation to lack of access to assistive technology and hostile workplace cultures” says a statement.
A 2023 report had already shown that “only 51% of disabled people have a job, compared with 75% of non-disabled people”.
According to the new publication: - only one in four employers in the countries surveyed has developed accessible recruitment processes; - 81% of employers have no policy in place for acquiring assistive technology; - only 25% of employers are aware of and make use of public funding to offer reasonable accommodation to disabled workers.
EDF therefore recommends that employers and public authorities take the necessary measures.
