10/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – Following violent wildfires on Albania’s southern border, the EU announced, on Wednesday 10 July, that it had deployed several fire-fighting resources via its civil protection system. Four Canadair aircraft were dispatched from Greece to help the local teams. While the wildfires have now been brought under control, the EU says it is keeping an eye on the situation through its Emergency Response Coordination Centre, should further assistance be required. The European Commission has deployed a fleet of 556 firefighters from 12 countries to key locations across Europe this summer to support local fire brigades. (IS)
