On Tuesday 9 July, the European Research Council (ERC) announced that the European Commission had adopted its work programme for 2025. The programme, drawn up by the ERC’s Scientific Council, highlights funding opportunities, the amounts allocated to calls for projects, the timetable for grant competitions and the ERC’s funding conditions.
The ERC has announced that it will offer a total of €2.7 billion to support research projects through grants in 2025. This amount includes contributions from countries associated with Horizon Europe.
In addition, the ERC has specified that Member States can support proposals that were deemed to be excellent, but which could not be funded due to budgetary constraints using resources from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Finally, the ERC stated that the programme also included various actions, including promoting the ERC’s activities and the principles of open science to the general public, and supporting National Contact Points (NCPs) to share best practices.
National Contact Points are set up in each State that is a beneficiary of the Horizon Europe research framework programme to support project leaders in this context.
There are also plans to continue work on evaluating and monitoring the impact of ERC funding.
