On Wednesday 10 July, China finally announced that it had opened its investigation into the EU’s regulation to tackle unfair foreign subsidies (FSR). A few days earlier, it had indicated that it would examine the request for an investigation submitted by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in June 2024.
Under the FSR Regulation, the European Commission has already initiated or prepared five investigations against Chinese companies.
Beijing has denounced these recent decisions, as well as the imposition of countervailing duties on Chinese electric vehicles (see EUROPE 13446/1). China has threatened on several occasions to protect its companies from European practices, which it regards as protectionist.
The country already announced in January that it was investigating the case of wine spirits imported from the EU. In June, it also launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of European pork and pork products.
The investigation, which has only just begun, is expected to be completed in January 2025, with the possibility of a three-month extension. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
