20/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 20 June, the European Commission announced new EU humanitarian funding of €15 million for the people of Myanmar and those who have fled to neighbouring countries, such as the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. “These additional €15 million will bring relief to a population that faces multiple threats, including grave protection risks, a serious food security crisis and little access to critical healthcare”, said the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, on Thursday. Following a military coup in February 2021 (see EUROPE 12662/12), there has been fighting in the country. This fighting has been particularly intense in recent days on the west coast, in the state of Rakhine. (BD)
