After oats, Ukrainian eggs have now exceeded their tariff-free import quota, two European sources confirmed on Thursday 20 June. The Commission must therefore reintroduce tariff quotas on this product within 14 days of when the quota was exceeded, as required by the regulation on autonomous trade measures towards Ukraine (see EUROPE 13386/1).
This text, in force until 5 July 2025, allows imports of poultry, eggs, sugar, oats, maize, groats and honey to enter without tariffs, provided they do not exceed a certain volume. The reference period for calculating this cap is the annual average between July 2021 and the end of 2023.
The regulation on autonomous trade measures came into force on 5 June, and the automatic safeguard was already triggered on 19 June for Ukrainian oats (see EUROPE 13434/14). (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
