20/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – The Co-Chair of the ECR Group in the European Parliament, Nicola Procaccini (Italian), said on Thursday 20 June that he had lodged a complaint for defamation against the President of the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) Group in the European Parliament, Iratxe García Pérez. He raised the matter at the meeting of the Conference of Presidents (CoP) at the European Parliament on the same day, he told the press after the meeting. The Socialist MEP had accused Nicola Procaccini, on the social network X, of making a “fascist salute” in a photo that she said could be seen in a Fanpage documentary. “There is no photo of me doing a fascist salute because I have never done it in my life”, said the Italian MEP. He said he was prepared to withdraw his complaint “if she publicly apologises and guarantees that such a thing will never happen again”. (LM)
