20/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – Visiting North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on Wednesday June 19, the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, said that there would be no military solution to the ongoing conflict in the east of the country (see EUROPE 13360/7). The Commissioner called on the DRC and Rwanda to engage in “inclusive dialogue” in order to address the “root causes” of the conflict. Speaking to the Congolese press, Mr Lenarčič condemned the support of Rwanda and all regional players for the rebels of the ‘M23’ movement. "The European Union will spare no effort to restore peace”, he declared on the sidelines of a meeting in Goma with the local military governor, representatives of the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (Monusco) and the EU’s humanitarian partners (see EUROPE 13434/23).
