European Union presents financial opportunities of ‘Global Gateway’ to Tanzanian private sector

On Wednesday 19 June, the European Union organised an information session for Tanzanian businesses in Dar es Salaam, entitled ‘Grow with the European Union Finance’. The aim was to present the financial opportunities offered by the EU and its Member States as part of the ‘Global Gateway’ investment plan (see EUROPE 13364/20).

Guidance on EU financing instruments and the process for accessing these funds was given to over 100 representatives from the banking sector and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), said the EU Delegation to Tanzania in a press release dated Thursday 20 June.

In addition, a new grant contract worth €4 million was signed between the Financial Sector Deepening Trust (FSDT) and the EU to promote “inclusive finance” for SMEs. Active in Tanzania since 2004, FSDT is a donor-funded market facilitator the main objective of which is to reduce poverty among underserved Tanzanians.

A conducive business environment is essential for businesses to thrive, and finance is their lifeblood”, said Cedric Merel, Head of Cooperation for the EU Delegation to Tanzania, on Thursday. (Original version in French by Bernard Denuit)
