20/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – In a press release issued on Tuesday 18 June, the European Environment Agency (EEA) announced the creation of a new tool to track progress on plastics circularity in Europe. This tool will be of use to citizens and decision-makers alike at a time when “plastics production and consumption patterns across Europe remain unsustainable”, according to a briefing also published on Tuesday 18 June entitled ‘The role of plastics in Europe’s circular economy’. Developed as part of the EEA’s Circularity Metrics Lab, which is working towards a circular economy for plastics, the tool “provides detailed insights into the circularity of plastics“. In its briefing, the EEA states that “plastic consumption in Europe is [...] expected to grow in line with projected increases in global plastics production”. (FS)
