19/06/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 19 June, the European Commission announced that it had registered the European Citizens’ Initiatives (ECI) ‘Air-Quotas’ and ‘Stop Destroying Videogames’. By validating their legal admissibility, the European Commission is starting the process of collecting signatures, which will last six months. The first ECI calls for the introduction of a citizens’ carbon quota mechanism to encourage companies to decarbonise via consumers. The second ECI wants video game publishers in the European Union to no longer be able to make their games (or related elements) non-functional remotely. If these ECIs reach the signature quotas, the European Commission will have to take them into account and justify its decisions, whatever they may be.
