In the run-up to the European elections, the European pro-choice movement ‘My Voice, My Choice’ is urging voters to support reproductive rights. According to a survey conducted by the campaigning organisation, the findings of which were published on Thursday 6 June, the Social Democrat, Liberal, Green and Left parties support the legislation proposed by the current European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) on safe and accessible abortion, while the European People’s Party and far-right parties remain undecided or opposed.

The ECI is seeking one million signatures to urge the European Commission to propose legislation guaranteeing funding for safe and accessible abortion services in the EU. Several political representatives, such as Nicolas Schmit (Luxembourg), lead candidate for the Party of European Socialists, and Walter Baier (Austrian), ‘Spitzenkandidat’ for the Party of the European Left, strongly support this initiative.
However, the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has not taken a position. The ‘My Voice, My Choice’ movement is warning of the dangers of the growing influence of the far right on women’s rights and calling for a vote in favour of pro-choice candidates in the June elections.
