EU Council to adopt conclusions on future of European Health Union on 21 June

At the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council on 21 June in Luxembourg, the ministers will adopt conclusions on the future of the European Health Union.

The Council stresses the need to develop a coherent, transparent and effective European institutional framework to strengthen crisis preparedness and response at EU level, in accordance with the conclusions of the European Council of 21 and 22 March 2024. Prevention, preparedness and response to health emergencies are essential if we are to prepare for future crises, the text emphasises in its conclusions.

This text invites the countries of the EU and the European Commission to: - tackle the health workforce crisis; - meet the priority needs of health and innovation policies; - take measures to prevent non-communicable diseases; - effectively combat antimicrobial resistance; - strengthen the EU ecosystem for clinical trials; - take measures in the areas of preparedness and communicable diseases; - improve security of supply and access to medicines.
