EU is not sufficiently involved in health and social inequality issues, according to EuroHealthNet

In a statement published on Thursday, 6 June, the EuroHealthNet Partnership accuses the EU of failing to live up to citizens’ expectations with regard to health issues and the fight against social inequalities.

These topics are, however, the ones that Europeans consider to be the most important in the European election campaign, according to the Spring 2024 Eurobarometer survey conducted by the European Parliament. Nevertheless, EuroHealthNet asserts that these issues are not being sufficiently prioritised by national and European decision-makers. Director of EuroHealthNet Caroline Costongs believes that investments in individual health and well-being will benefit society as a whole.

In particular, the association is calling on the EU to reduce differences in healthy life expectancy, to improve quality of life, to strengthen the preventive approach in national healthcare systems, and even to become more involved where mental health, especially that of young people, is concerned.

The director of the EuroHealthNet Partnership took the opportunity to announce the publication of the association’s annual report, which shows how EuroHealthNet is working, at a European level, to fight social inequalities in health.
