15/04/24 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 12 April, the EU Council validated the agreement reached with the European Parliament on the revision of the rules on driving time and rest periods for drivers of occasional bus and coach services (see EUROPE 13339/3). “The new rules on minimum breaks and rests will ensure better working conditions for bus drivers and guarantee better services for tourist trips across Europe”, commented Georges Gilkinet, the Belgian minister for mobility. The revised legislation introduces clearly defined elements of flexibility, by way of derogation and at the discretion of the driver, into the rules on breaks and rest periods applicable to professional drivers.
