15/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 15 April, the European Commission announced that the Vice-President of the European Union institution, Věra Jourová, would take over the portfolio vacated by the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, as of the same day, for as long as Mr Reynders remains on unpaid leave. At the end of March, the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, granted him unpaid leave so that he could campaign for the post of Secretary General of the Council of Europe until Tuesday 25 June, the date of the vote in the Parliamentary Assembly (see EUROPE 13381/14). Ms Jourová will continue discussions with representatives of the PSOE and EPP parties with a view to finding a solution to the reform of the National Council of the Judiciary. (MB)
