15/04/24 (Agence Europe) – Following last Friday’s announcement of the creation of a Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) in Haiti, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service, Peter Stano, on Monday 15 April, called on Haiti’s political forces to have the new council formally appointed by the outgoing government of Prime Minister Ariel Henry. “The country urgently needs a Haitian-led solution to end the current political vacuum, and to address the long-running political, security and humanitarian crisis”, said Mr Stano in a statement, adding that the TPC’s appointment was necessary for the appointment of a new Haitian Prime Minister and the deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission, mandated by the United Nations Security Council to support the Haitian National Police and restore security (see EUROPE 13373/5).
