15/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – Eight European networks dedicated to cities and regions have urged EU leaders to step up the implementation of the Green Deal at local level. United under the banner of the Local Alliance, these bodies announced on Monday 15 April that they had sent a letter drafted at the end of March calling for increased funding, appropriate policies and cooperation mechanisms to facilitate a just transition to climate neutrality. Referring to recent legislative obstacles, notably the Nature Restoration Law, and the need for local action, the Alliance stressed the importance of sub-national governments, which are already mobilising more than half of public spending on climate. In the run-up to the European elections, these networks are calling for a stronger partnership at all levels to guarantee the sustainable future of the European Union.
