15/04/24 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 15 April, the European Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) published its non-binding policy recommendations on how to facilitate the uptake of artificial intelligence in research and innovation in Europe. The recommendations, requested by Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for a Europe fit for the Digital Age Margrethe Vestager in July 2023, are based on a data review report including, in particular, the creation of a European institute for AI in science, high quality standards for AI systems, but also the transparency of public models or European support for the development of AI tools and technologies specialised in scientific work. The SAM also recommends an approach centred on people and the community. The Commission stresses that this series of recommendations could provide food for thought when it draws up its overall strategy for AI in research and innovation.
