On Monday 15 April, as part of the EU-funded e-FishMed project, the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) launched an exchange programme to enhance cooperation and promote sharing of expertise and best practice in the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The exchange programme is targeted to fisheries inspectors and Fisheries Monitoring Centres operators from the five e-FishMed Beneficiary Countries: Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia. The programme benefits from the technical support of the e-FishMed project partners France, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain (see EUROPE 13315/25).
The first edition of the exchange programme is being organised in cooperation with the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, which will be hosting participants from Beneficiary Countries, sharing its working experience and methods with them from 15 to 19 April.
The e-FishMed project contributes to harmonising fisheries control and inspection activities and encourages cooperation against illegal fishing (see EUROPE 12961/14).
