14/02/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 14 February, the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) Europe took the view that Parliament’s position on the introduction of additional procedures for the application of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) falls short of expectations and risks complicating its implementation. According to the CCIA, Parliament plans to “give significantly more powers to complainants to intervene, while limiting those of parties under investigation”. “Rather than streamlining enforcement, this risks turning any cross-border procedure into an adversarial one”, adds CCIA, which believes that increasing the powers of supervisory authorities and the European Data Protection Board would introduce a “dramatic decision-making overhaul and undermine basic GDPR principles, such as the One-Stop-Shop mechanism”. “This will only lead to an increase in abusive complaints and further slow down procedures”, adds the CCIA.
