MEPs endorse compromise text on honey labelling

14/02/24 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 14 February, the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety approved (76 votes in favour, none against and no abstentions) the compromise text with the EU Council revising the rules relating to the composition, designation, labelling and presentation of certain foodstuffs, including honey (see EUROPE 13340/9). The negotiators agreed to make it compulsory to clearly indicate, close to the product name, the countries of origin of the honey, “in descending order of their share in weight, together with the percentage that each one represents”. A tolerance of 5% is allowed for each individual share within the blend. The text, which will be adopted by Parliament in March, also provides for three new categories of fruit juice.
