On Friday 14 July, the European Commission announced its decision to take Estonia to the Court of Justice of the European Union for failing to fulfil its obligations. The Commission notes that Estonia has not yet notified it of any measures transposing into national law the Directive aimed at providing the competition authorities of the Member States with the means to enforce the competition rules more effectively and to ensure the proper functioning of the internal market, the so-called ECN+ Directive (Directive EU/2019/1).
The deadline for transposing the Directive was 4 February 2021.
In accordance with the infringement proceedings, the European Commission had previously sent Estonia a letter of formal notice on 18 March 2021 and a reasoned opinion on 29 September 2022. (Original version in French by Émilie Vanderhulst)
