14/07/2023 (Agence Europe) – At the request of several Member States (see EUROPE 13222/36), the European Commission confirmed at the Ecofin Council on Friday 14 July that it would include mining in the EU taxonomy. “We were not able to include it as part of our June proposals for delegated acts (see EUROPE 13217/15), as the sustainable finance group of experts has not evaluated those activities yet”, explained Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for An Economy that Works for People and Commissioner for Trade. He also pointed out that the Commission had asked the new group to work on this issue and to carry out the evaluation as a matter of priority, because the clear proposals must be properly evaluated on the basis of objective criteria. “We also have to prove that this facilitates greening”, he added.
