14/07/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 13 July, the spokesman for the European External Action Service strongly condemned the murder earlier in the day of Chérubin Okende, MP, former minister and spokesman for the ‘Ensemble pour la République’ party, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. “The European Union calls on the authorities to shed light rapidly on the circumstances of this assassination and to bring those responsible to justice”, the spokesman stressed in a press release. In his view, everything must be done to ensure that the general elections scheduled for the end of 2023 can take place in an atmosphere that allows them to be competitive, peaceful, inclusive and transparent (see EUROPE 13218/18).
