26/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries on Wednesday 26 April approved (21 votes in favour, 3 against and no abstentions) the compromise text on the multi-annual management plan for bluefin tuna in the Mediterranean (see EUROPE 13169/40). According to the agreement (https://aeur.eu/f/6k1 ), a farm can only be allowed to carry over catches of live non-harvested bluefin tuna from previous years if a reinforced control system is put in place. If such carry-over is allowed, Member States must send the Commission an annual carry-over declaration detailing the quantities, year of catch, average weight, flag country and farm number. If the difference between the caged bluefin tuna and the declared quantities caught or transferred is more than 10%, the Member State responsible for the catching vessel or trap shall open an investigation.
