25/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – The negotiating teams of the Council of the EU, the European Parliament and the European Commission reached agreement on Monday 24 April on the regulation establishing a multi-annual management plan for bluefin tuna in the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean. This dossier has been negotiated over two years: the European Parliament adopted its position on this bluefin tuna management plan at the end of April 2021. The Council of the EU had rejected the agreement reached with the European Parliament (see EUROPE 13132/37). Clara Aguilera MEP (S&D, Spanish) is the rapporteur on this dossier. Caroline Roose (Greens/EFA, French) regretted that the text was not more ambitious for small-scale fishermen. “The final text states that EU Member States should seek to distribute the quotas fairly”, she comments.
