Pact on Migration and Asylum, work continues on regulation on EU asylum procedures

EU Member States’ representatives will discuss a new compromise document on the asylum procedures regulation on Thursday 27 April, including border procedures and the ‘safe country’ concept.

This latest document, dated 25 April (see EUROPE 13156/10), makes changes to the issue of adequate capacity of a Member State with semantic clarifications (Member States should take the necessary measures to establish an adequate capacity, in terms of reception and human resources, required to examine at any given time a determined number of asylum applications and returns) or clarifications on the measures to be taken when this adequate capacity, determined at EU level and in a legal act by the Commission, is reached or in the process of being reached, including the notifications to be sent to the Commission.

According to one source, an initial political discussion on the various regulations of the Pact on Migration and Asylum under consideration in the EU Council could take place on 3 May at the level of the Member States’ ambassadors. Another source did not confirm this date.
