25/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 25 April, in the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), MEPs backed the provisional agreement reached in inter-institutional negotiations (trilogue) on the revision of the energy efficiency directive (48 votes in favour, 8 against and 6 abstentions), for which Niels Fuglsang (S&D, Danish) is rapporteur. Negotiations between the European Parliament and the EU Council were held on 9 and 10 March. The co-legislators had agreed on a general energy efficiency target of 11.7% and annual energy savings of 1.5% for Member States, as well as targeted measures for the public sector and businesses and local district heating and cooling plans (see EUROPE 13139/11). The text will have to be adopted at the next plenary session of the Parliament. (PLD)
