23/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – Late in the day on Thursday, 23 February, Vice-President of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič once again met with UK Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Chris Heaton-Harris in Brussels to take stock of the talks on the implementation of the Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland. “We continue to engage on the outstanding issues related to the Protocol”, the Vice-President commented on Twitter. Both sides are “[s]triving for joint solutions in the interest of all communities in [Northern Ireland] and protective of the Good Friday [...] Agreement”, he added. “Intensive work continues”, commented Mr Heaton-Harris, who again described the meeting as “constructive”. Talks are reportedly still stalled over demands from the DUP, the Democratic Unionist Party in Northern Ireland, according to British media. (SP)
