23/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) announced on Thursday, 23 February, that it had closed its investigation into a digital project in Hungary—recommending that more than €3.6 million in EU funding be recovered. Financed by the European Social Fund, the project aimed to modernise educational establishments while improving and increasing access to e-learning. One of the principal elements of the project was the purchase of computer equipment for primary and secondary schools and e-learning training for teachers. OLAF’s investigation identified a number of breaches in public procurement procedure. These breaches included a last-minute modification of the technical specifications of the call for tenders and the exclusion of the lowest-priced bid, which gave the winning company a competitive advantage.
