28/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission’s implementing regulation 2022/1317, providing for derogations from the standards for good agricultural and environmental conditions of land (GAEC standards) 7 and 8 for claim year 2023, was published on Thursday 28 July in the Official Journal of the EU (see EUROPE 13001/2). On 27 July, despite reluctance within the Commission, in particular from Vice-President Frans Timmermans, the Commission decided to extend for one year (to 2023) the derogations granted to the rules on crop rotation and the use of land lying fallow in order to stimulate production in the context of the war in Ukraine. The text does, however, provide for some restrictions, notably on the cultivation of maize. Link to the legislative act: https://aeur.eu/f/2rb (LC)
