28/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Committee of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights published its conclusions on Wednesday 27 July, following the fourth report on the situation in Hong Kong. The authors recommend the repeal of the National Security Law and the sedition legislation. European External Action Service (EEAS) spokeswoman Nabila Massrali said the EU supported the recommendations on Thursday 28 July. It “expresses once again its grave concern about the growing infringement of civil and political rights such as freedom of expression, freedom of the press, political pluralism and freedom of association in Hong Kong”. Like the authors of the report, the EU calls on the Hong Kong authorities to ensure that representatives of civil society organisations are not arrested or intimidated because of their engagement with international organisations.
