28/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – French MEP Christophe Grudler (Renew Europe) opposes any participation of the Eutelsat-OneWeb merger in the future constellation for secure connectivity, in a statement published on Wednesday 27 July. The rapporteur of the text in the European Parliament explains: the United Kingdom, a major shareholder in OneWeb, could veto the text, which would potentially undermine the principle of European sovereignty at the heart of the constellation project. Furthermore, the MEP believes that OneWeb technology is “years” behind the European project. Furthermore, the participation of an Indo-British player in the constellation could limit the participation of European companies to the benefit of British and Indian companies. (PH)
