07/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – After several months of discussions, the European Parliament has finally decided to follow a joint committee procedure to address the proposal for an EU regulation on methane emissions in the energy sector, which was presented on 15 December 2021 (see EUROPE 12854/12). The European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and its Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) will thus be the two committees responsible for this dossier—with Jutta Paulus (Greens/EFA, Germany) and Silvia Sardone (ID, Italy) as co-rapporteurs. As regards the timetable, the draft report is scheduled to be presented on 10 October. The vote in ITRE and ENVI is not expected to take place until January 2023. As for the EU Council, the French Presidency had sent Member States an initial draft compromise on 20 April (see EUROPE 12936/1). (DG)
