European Parliament calls on Tajik government to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms

MEPs condemn the Tajik authorities’ violent repression of protesters, journalists, bloggers, lawyers and activists, following the demonstrations in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region in May 2022. In a resolution adopted on Thursday 7 July (520 votes in favour, 24 against, 31 abstentions), they call for the immediate release of people detained arbitrarily and for the charges against them to be dropped.
