The European Parliament has given a favourable opinion on adding the violation of European sanctions to the list of European infringements (‘euro-crimes’). On 30 June, the Member States had called on MEPs to vote on the decision, having themselves expressed their support for it (see EUROPE 12983/150).
Once the EU Council has formally adopted the decision unanimously, the European Commission will be able to propose a directive establishing minimum rules to punish the violation of EU sanctions.
The Commission submitted this proposal for a decision in May to combat the circumvention of sanctions against Russian oligarchs (see EUROPE 12960/6). (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
