04/05/22 (Agence Europe) – The EU Space Programme Agency (EUSPA) and the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) have signed a cooperation agreement (Memorandum of Understanding – MoU) for an initial period of two years, according to a press release that was published on Wednesday 4 May. According to an EUSPA press release, this cooperation will strengthen EFCA’s technological capabilities, which could be made available to fisheries control authorities in Member States. The objective is to improve the detection, identification and categorisation of non-compliant or potentially non-compliant fisheries activities, in particular through the Galileo programme, the European navigation system. EFCA will also analyse the potential of the Copernicus observation programme. (PH)
