04/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Union calls on all Guinean parties to dialogue for a consensual transition in Guinea Conakry. Following Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya’s announcement in favour of a 39-month transition - an announcement of which “the EU takes note” - the spokesperson for the European External Action Service stated on Wednesday 4 May that “this announcement provides an initial clarification that Guinea’s partners have been requesting for several months, even if we note that this extended timetable is already fuelling heated debate in Guinea”. The EU therefore encourages the National Rally and Development Committee (CNRD) and all political actors to “engage in a genuine and inclusive political dialogue, in order to conduct this transition process in a consensual manner and to address as soon as possible the stages necessary for its completion, in particular on constitutional issues and the electoral framework”. It also encourages dialogue with ECOWAS. (AN)
