04/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – In 2021, investment in new wind farms in Europe amounted to €41.4 billion, according to the new annual report from WindEurope, an organisation representing the European wind energy industry, published on Wednesday 4 May. While this is a decrease of 11% compared to 2020, this investment covers a record 24.6 GW of new wind capacity (including 19.8 GW of onshore wind farms). However, investments are still far from the 35 GW per year of new capacity that the EU would need to build to meet its 2030 climate and energy security targets, WindEurope points out. In terms of the distribution between countries, the UK is the most invested country (almost exclusively in offshore wind), followed by Germany, France, Spain, Sweden and Finland.
