The chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Juan Fernando López Aguilar (S&D, Spain), announced on 20 April the names of several rapporteurs on recent initiatives presented by the European Commission in the field of migration and asylum and home affairs.
As reported by EUROPE in March (see EUROPE 12913/36), the ECR and The Left groups are taking over the regulation on the instrumentalisation of migrants in the field of asylum and migration and the regulation on exceptional measures for Poland, Lithuania and Latvia respectively, with the rapporteurs now appointed: Patryk Jaki (ECR, Poland) and Cornelia Ernst (The Left, Germany).
The Polish member of the ECR will also manage the dossier on digital information exchange in cases of terrorism.
Portuguese Socialist MEP Isabel Santos gets the report on the new mandate of the European Medicines Agency, and Renew Europe’s Dutch MEP, Malik Azmani, gets the report on joint investigation teams.
The recommendation on operational police cooperation, which includes the possibility of strengthening joint police patrols to carry out checks in the border areas of the Member States, is entrusted to Hungarian Balázs Hidvéghi (NI).
In addition, the German Nicolaus Fest (ID) takes over the opinion on the action plan on the smuggling of migrants. (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
